Information We Collect
Zeehound collects the information you provide when you create an account, including your email address and password (stored as a one-way hash). When you use the service, we also collect your topic preferences, signal threshold settings, saved articles, and read history — all of which are tied to your account so we can personalize your feed.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not track your activity across other websites or apps for advertising purposes.
How We Use Your Information
Your email is used for account authentication, password resets, and essential service notifications (such as briefings you have opted into). Your topic preferences and threshold settings are used to filter and rank the signals shown in your feed. Your saved articles and read history are stored so you can revisit content and so we can avoid re-surfacing signals you have already seen.
Aggregated, anonymized data about which topics and signal types are most engaged with may be used to improve our source coverage and ranking algorithms. This data is never linked back to your individual identity.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secured cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production databases is restricted to authorized personnel and is audited. Passwords are never stored in plaintext — they are hashed using industry-standard algorithms.
Despite these measures, no system can guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach affecting your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities in accordance with applicable law.
Cookies and Local Storage
Zeehound uses minimal browser storage to maintain your session (authentication token) and remember your interface preferences (such as your selected signal threshold). We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking pixels.
You can clear local storage at any time through your browser settings. Doing so will sign you out and reset your interface preferences, but will not delete data stored on your account.
Third-Party Services
Zeehound retrieves content from public news sources, government websites, and podcast transcript providers. These external services may have their own privacy policies that govern how they handle any data you send them directly. Zeehound does not share your personal information with these content sources.
We use cloud hosting and infrastructure providers to run the service. These providers have access only to the data necessary to operate and secure the platform, and are bound by their own confidentiality obligations.
Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information associated with your account. You can update your topic preferences and threshold settings at any time within the app. To request deletion of your account and associated data, contact us through the Contact page.
If you are located in the European Union, the United Kingdom, California, or another jurisdiction with specific data protection laws, you may have additional rights including the right to data portability and the right to object to certain processing activities.
Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (for example, to maintain records of consent or to resolve disputes).
Read history and saved articles are retained until you delete them or your account is closed. Inactive accounts (no login for 24 months) may be archived, and you will be notified before any data is removed.
Children's Privacy
Zeehound is designed for professionals, researchers, and informed readers. The service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes that affect how we handle your data, we will notify you by email or through an in-app notice before the change takes effect.
Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, please reach out through our Contact page. We are committed to responding to privacy inquiries promptly and transparently.
